During my sisters recent visit we went along to the Wrest Point Casino, Hobart for their special French High Tea during the month of July and were not disappointed with views extending from Hobart’s city, the Tasman Bridge and Mount Wellington and fabulous food and wine.
As their site says: “Seventeen floors above the River Derwent, the revolving restaurant at Wrest Point radiates ‘special occasion.’ When the doors open and the view unfolds, you’ll understand why The Point has been a backdrop of memorable dining 40 years over.”
We feasted on buttery golden pastries and delicious Parisian patisserie and even met the Head Chef and Pastry Chef too, who both made a visit to each table to welcome guests to the High Tea.
For $49 per person the afternoon included classic French style high tea with a glass of Moet et Chandon Champagne on arrival.
On the tasting plates were:
Bayonne ham and Pyengana cheddar croque monsieur
Leek and gruyère quiche
Brioche buns, local jam, Meander Valley cream
Buttered poached lobster, herb mayonnaise finger sandwich
Oak smoked chicken, thyme butter, oak lettuce baguette open sandwich
From the bottom moving up each layer)
Salted caramel and hazelnut éclair
Lemon passionfruit macaron
A cheesecake style tartlet
and on the top a delectable Berry layer mousse cake ( well that’s what I’m calling it!)
Towards Sandy Bay
You never know who might be hanging around outside!
French High Tea is between 2.30pm – 4.30pm each Friday during July 2016. Bookings are essential as is pre-payment.
