Mount Direction flickers with fire!

Smoke billowed across Hobart’s Eastern Shore on Wednesday 29 May, 2013, as controlled burn-offs over the Mt Direction area took place.

Under the careful eye of the Tasmania Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife and Forestry Tasmania staff, the 542ha fuel reduction burn could be seen far a-field.

The burn was aimed at reducing the fire risk in the Meehan Ranges and the threat to the communities of Otago Bay, Risdon Vale, Geilston Bay and Lindisfarne. Many firefighting units could be seen on the ground, supported by one helicopter.

People with medical conditions were advised to avoid the smokey area.
