A beam of light brightened Hobart

Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda’s light installation “Spectra” made for a wonderful visual and aural display. Located near the cenotaph as part of the Dark MoFo festival that just wound up in Hobart, “Spectra” was a collection of 49 custom-made, high-powered searchlights that beamed pure white light up to about 15km into the Hobart sky. This light installation attracted many people drawn not only by the wonderful visual display that could be seen from miles away (we could see it from home some 10kms or so away) but also for the ambient music that added to visitors overall experience.

To follow are some pictures I took on my late night visit – and the rain (which didn’t stopped for days) does little to detract from the artwork in fact I thought it helped heighten the ambience!
