I doubt there are many visitors to New York who do not visit at least one of the amazing art galleries this vibrant city has to offer. Well for me it is a MUST and on my last trip in May/June 2012 I took Mr Iced Vovo along to MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art, for his first visit to this amazing art space.
One of the special exhibitions on whilst we were there was the captivating Cindy Sherman exhibition of photographs featuring Sherman herself in a range of guises and personas. Sherman takes on the role as photographer, model, makeup artist, hairdresser, stylist and wardrobe designer to create the most intriguing characters that will certainly have you thinking.
A must to do at the gallery is to wander outside in the sculpture garden where you can admire the art whilst having a coffee or snack. We opted for refreshments at the Terrace 5 café located on the fifth floor and sat outside on the balcony that overlooks the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden to get another wonderful perspective of the garden and the city skyline before meandering amongst the sculptures themselves.
Before you leave you must also visit the extensive MoMA Design and Book Store that showcases an extensive selection of art books, art reproductions, design objects, gifts, jewellery, cards and much more.
Check the MoMA website for opening times, admission costs and loads of other useful information so you can plan a productive visit before you arrive. You’ll find MoMA at 11 West 53 Street, New York only a short walk from Times Square or Central Park.
