Last morsels

He delivered his
gift in silence
leaving it at the door
A small package
wrapped in coloured tissue
tied with a bow
strangling its centre
A symbol of where their relationship had gone
now stifled and constrained
the love was lost
and would soon be tossed
out along with the empty box
but not before she gorged on each
delicious morsel
Crunching through hard brittle
and biting through soft creamy centres
she devoured the remains of their relationship
licked her lips and then threw the box aside
smiling that her discontent was now satiated
and she could move on

Life really was like a box of chocolates
Deliciously fickle and wicked
