Pirdy is the brand of creative talent, Juliet, from Melbourne, Victoria. With an emphasis on modern and vintage inspired home wares and jewellery all meticulously handmade from her home studio a Pirdy product is sure to brighten up your day.
Iced Vovo caught up with Juliet recently at her stall at the Rose Street Artists’ Market in Fitzroy Melbourne:
A: Pirdy was started when the business I was working for closed. I felt there was more I could do with the skills I had, rather than working for someone else.
Q: Pirdy is a lovely mix of home-wares, jewellery and more – what draws you to these products?
A: I love decorating my home and myself, so anything that gives me satisfaction is usually the direction I will go in. Nostalgia, colour and shapes are my main inspiration. I’m not sure if I’m really aware of inspiration entering my mind, but there is a back log of ideas swimming around my brain.
Q: What did you first start producing and what prompted the expansion?
A: Pirdy started at The Rose St Artists’ Market 6 years ago. I had about 30 different products at that time and have refined some of those and expanded on others.
Q: All your items, including the molds are handmade by you, including the pigments, has this been a real learning curve expanding your skills into all areas of the business and crafting?
A: You never stop learning! Some of biggest disasters I’ve had had lead me to new creations.
Q: What do you most like to work with and why?
A: I love resin! It’s such a great medium, very messy, but the results are beautiful.
Q: What is currently your most popular item?
A: My Geometric necklaces and the new resin vases are my best sellers. Shame they are the trickiest to make:)
Q: Do you have plans for any new products that you can tell us about?
A: I’m always thinking of new products to make. I keep a book full of my ideas. It’s not easy finding time, but when you do and your designs come out as you imagined, it the best feeling. This usually involves some tears.
Q: Where can people find your products?
A: Pirdy is available through retail stores. You can find them on my website www.pirdy.com.au/ Etsy www.etsy.com/shop/PIRDY and at The Rose St. Atists’ Market every Saturday.
