If you’ve been following the blog over the past two years you’d know how much I love Christmas. Not for the presents but for the presence of loved ones who travel near and far to be together – when we can.

Well this year is just the same but I’m not doing my usual lead up to Christmas with gift ideas as this year my and Mr Iced Vovo’s family have decided to cut down on the present thang with a round robin name draw for those coming on the day.

We figured that now, with nearly all the ‘kids’ in the family well into their teens, we all have everything we need and so we decided to put the names in the hat and draw out buying for one – well that’s what we’ve planned – we’ll see how it pans out!

However, (an un-ashamed plug coming up here) if you are stuck on ideas or want a stocking filler why don’t you purchase one of my poetry books Fragments? I promise it will make you laugh, ponder and perhaps even think about poetry in a different light (but be warned there aren’t any bush ballads in the collection).

I have been busy organising the food though and again we are breaking more traditions this year opting for a good old gourmet Aussie BBQ instead of the obligatory turkey and ham et.al. So we’ve been on the hunt for the best snags and burgers, skewers and fish and I’m now pondering the salads to accompany. Would love your suggestions on best burgers and skewers in Hobart – we have the snags ordered and the fish will come from the docks the day before.

No doubt there will be recipes and pics on the blog to share – but if you think you have the BEST_DARN SALAD_RECIPE_OF_ALL_TIME then I’d LOVE to hear about it – please drop me a line!!! And, what’s more I promise that any selected recipes will appear on the blog after Christmas – with your blessing of course!

There’s a Moroccan carrot salad I’m quite partial too that might get a go, however, I’m thinking I want something new – maybe containing chickpeas, rice or beetroot (not necessarily all of these ;p)???? So if you have anything along that line then send it through. But, really I’m not wedded to those ingredients either so whatever your pearl of a recipe is send it through.

On the dessert front I’m going to do the Bill Granger’s Pistachio cake featured earlier this year that is soooo delectable I put it straight on the list and I think there will be a chocolate cake (well because there has to some chocolate!) and I’m going to do my shortbread I do every year but again, to mix things up, I’m also going to do some florentines with ingredients I love (I’ll keep you posted on that one) and I might even have a go at Gingerbread too (if time and inclination allows). I also came across Adriano Zumbo’s Santa Slice that will be making it’s debut on Christmas Eve when my mates drop around for a drink and snack (and hopefully spa – weather permitting).

So, all-in-all food wise I think the festive season is shaping up well (and so might I afterwards ;P).

I’ve also been stock-piling a selection of wines, mostly Tasmanian, to enjoy too and will share the final selection with you once that has been decided – or drunk – whatever the case maybe!
