Love of Three Oranges is a collaborative caper bringing together the best of independent Australian fashion.
Iced Vovo spoke with Suncana to find out a little more:
A: A love of three is a colaborative of two labels, SAGOME (Anna Pontelandolfo) and SUNCANA (me). We work together at McKinnon from our studios handcrafting our labels and representing and selling 7 other Australian independent designers at the shop. We opened the doors 10 months ago. So far so good…..
Q: Are you formally trained in Fashion design or how did you both end up in this area?
A: Anna finished Fashion design at RMIT, I have studied art and craft and art history in Europe.
Q: The name of the shop is cute and is the same as the satirical opera by Sergei Prokofiev – did this prompt the label or how did it come about?
A: The Love of Three Oranges is also a Carlo Gozi fairy tale from late 18th c. I knew it since childhood, Anna is Italian……it was inevitable
Q: How would you describe your clothes?
A: Clothes is the outer layer of our personality ! Should fit well the body and the soul! The first is to try hard and still look like everybody else. I wish to offer some things a bit different.
Q: In your range there seems to be a lot of great designs that can be worn by many shapes, was this intentional – to open clothes/fashion up to everyone?
A: Yes, clothiers of our time should cross the boundaries of countries, time and body shapes!
Q: Do you work on seasonal ranges or what determines what you have in your collection?
A: Yes, seasons are a must in this business, we use wool in winter and linen in summer. Some shapes translate very well through that….
Q: What fabrics do you tend to use and where are they sourced?
A: Mostly using natural fibers, loooove good wool and vintage cottons. Fabrics come from all over the world, and that is all I going to tell….
Q: What is your favourite item and why?
A: The Tulip Dress.
Q: What is currently the most popular item in your range?
A: The Tulip dress maybe because I love it so much or maybe because it fits most shapes…
Q: Are you going to be developing anything new in your range and if so can you reveal a little what that may be?
A: We are always working on new patterns, lots of different shapes and styles pockets are making it in new season, Anna and I are both thrilled that they are so much “in” again. Coco loved them too….
Q: Is your label stocked anywhere else aside from your Rose St Market Stall?
A: Rose street market is out permanent stall, also of course Love of three oranges in McKinnon, and small range is part of Limerence boutique and gallery in Belgrave…..more to come….
