A Merry Hymn at Christmas

Don’t you find that shopping for the men in your life (Dad, brother, partner, son, nephew, grand-dad etc) often the hardest? Who is sick of buying jocks, socks, ties or work shirts?

Well I am and I’m vowing to do something about it this Christmas.

Here are a few things I’ve found whilst hunting around on the internet:

Ben Sherman – the perfect mix of modern and retro style – funky t-shirts, mod polo shirts, cool casual shirts, and there is even playing cards and pillow cases too! You can find Ben Sherman in any good menswear shop or Department store but check out eBay and Amazon for some great bargains too.

Vouchers are becoming another popular gift and are especially good for the fussy or hard to buy male in the family. Here are some of my voucher picks:

  • Gold Class Movie or your favourite local Independent Cinema (eg State Cinema Hobart)
  • JB HI-Fi
  • Macy’s, Myer, David Jones, TARGET, Selfridges & Co, John Lewis (or his other favourite department store)
  • iTunes/Apple Store

Why not tickets to his favourite sporting event, music concert, play, dance performance or Opera? (What’s great about this is that you can go along too!)

Memberships are another idea such as Golf, AFL, Soccer or look up whatever other interest he might be in to.

If he is a little adventurous, or would like to be, what about a Sky-diving lesson or simulated Jet flight?

If you live in Tasmania you may like to organise a day out on the Peppermint Bay boat trip, a day wine tour with Boutique Wine Tours Tasmania, a trip on the Sea-plane or take the MONA ferry to the Museum of Old and New Art for the day.

Fly fishing T-shirt from medium control

If you’ve got a keen fisherman in the house, how about this great Fly-fishing tee from mediumcontrol  on Etsy?

Or how about organising a golf lesson, putt-putt, bare-foot bowls or ten-pin bowling (if they have late night disco bowling even better!)?

Everyone (nearly) loves a little Christmas spirit too but instead of his normal/favourite choice in liquor why not try a boutique local brew, cider, wine or spirit? I don’t know about where you might be but down here in Tasmania we are spoilt for choice. There are numerous brewers, distillers and vineyards to make that holiday cheer just a little bit different and special – and you’d be supporting local business too!

Let me know some of your great finds for men too!
